  • Floating Liquefaction - FLNG

The surging demand for LNG and requirement to monetize vast amount of stranded gas reserves drives EXMAR to create innovative LNG infrastructure solutions that bring LNG to the market in a fast-track, cost-effective, flexible and reliable manner. Today, EXMAR brings innovation further upstream with the completion and commissioning of the world’s first barge-based offshore Floating Liquefaction Unit (FLNG).

EXMAR's FLNG system will drastically reduce time-to-market by providing floating liquefaction and storage in a cost-efficient and flexible way to gas fields located onshore and offshore, eliminating the need for large and costly infrastructure on land.

Building on the experience that EXMAR has gained in the TANGO FLNG project, the LNG team is also pursuing a variety of other floating liquefaction opportunities that are in different stages of development. Significant amounts of engineering man-hours have been spent on the development of a wide range of FLNG concepts and designs with capacities varying from 0.5 to 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

Since then EXMAR’s FLNG has successfully been operating above its nameplate capacity for more than 1.5 years in Argentina to export Vaca Muerta’s shale gas. Following this last employment, EXMAR’s 0.5 MTPA FLNG is today available again. The FLNG, 100% owned by EXMAR, is fully financed, and has a successful operational track record.

  • Floating Regasification - FSRU

EXMAR was the first company in the world to build, own and operate a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). Since 2005 EXMAR has built up significant knowledge and experience in the construction, development, ownership, management and operation of FSRUs around the world.

EXMAR’s experience includes over 10 new building FSRU’s, 5 FS(R)U conversions and the commissioning of in total more than 15 FSRU terminals. Currently EXMAR is owning 1 third generation FSRU barge and is having more than 60 years of combined FSRU ownership.

Started as the first FSRU operator more than 15 years ago, EXMAR has over 180 years of accumulated experience in operating FSRU’s, giving it a unique position in the FSRU market. This expertise and operational background is of great value to EXMAR’s clients in the development of their LNG import projects.

EXMAR is working with several clients on the development of small scale FSRUs up to Q-max FSRUs. All of EXMAR’s solutions are tailor-made to the requirements of each client and underlying FSRU project.

Based on its experience and continuous monitoring of the LNG regasification market, EXMAR is developing tailor-made efficient FSRU solutions. This latest innovations respond to the anticipated demand for increased flexibility and cost-efficient, fast-track and scalable FSRUs, which can be more rapidly deployed than existing FSRUs.

In collaboration with EXMAR Ship Management, EXMAR Infrastructure can offer a comprehensive range of operations and maintenance services, including crewing, marine and HSEQ management, certifications and class approval. A genuine turnkey solution is available to clients, including the formation of joint ventures as part of a long-term partnership seen so often with EXMAR’s key clients.

  • Floating Production Systems and FPSO Designs

    The EXMAR OPTI® series

With increasing demand for re-deployable, fast lead- time-to-production units, EXMAR’s OPTI® series of semisubmersible platforms have been designed as an optimized and scalable solution for floating production systems (FPS). OPTI-EX® with 6000 metric tonnes of payload was successfully deployed in the Gulf of Mexico for the Who Dat field in 2011. The larger OPTI 11000® hull was utilized for the Delta House FPS installed in 2015 and the King’s Quay is currently under construction for Murphy Oil. In-house designs are also under development for 4,000 up to 30,000 metric tonne units. The OPTI® series is a standardized design and fully scalable to meet specific load requirements in all environments.

Features of the design include unique 5-sided columns connected to a ring-pontoon which provide superior motion characteristics, reduced structural weights, and allow for the use of EXMAR’s FAST™ (Fully-Aligned Stress joint Trimming) riser pull-in method. This permits the safe, reliable and highly efficient installation of production and export risers, which significantly reduces overall cost and lead time for FPS deployment.

As part of its commitment to continual improvement and the implementation of lessons learned, improvements to the OPTI® design include un-manned capability, carbon capture readiness and offshore renewables applications.

  • Offshore Accommodation / Work barges

EXMAR is a major player with proven track record servicing the West African market specialised in the provision and operations of offshore Accommodation and support units.

Over the past 2 decades, EXMAR has put substantial effort in the training and career development plan of its local marine crew, by investing in overseas STCW Training Programs and by implementing intensive and pro-active on-site training courses. The ultimate goal of these local content programs is the nationalization of principal crew positions on board the accommodation barges by certified local workforce.

EXMAR is continuously looking towards the extension of its fleet, to further consolidate its reputable position on the West African floating accommodation / work barge market.

  • Designs and upgrades of MODUs, MOPUs and Drill Ships

Decades of experience in designing and upgrading offshore assets

EXMAR Offshore emerged in the early nineties as owners and operators of a large drilling fleet as well as building its first DP-3 drilling semisubmersible.

Today, EXMAR Offshore still holds intellectual property rights to four MODU designs and one drill ship design, including a recently designed harsh-environment semisubmersible, as well as a Dry Tree Semisubmersible MOPU.

EOC has executed a number of client projects in recent years. This includes upgrading a semisubmersible multi-support and well intervention vessel, 3,500 foot and 5,000 foot depth upgrades for two rigs as well as performing a detailed reliability upgrade to a drill ship.

The latter project entailed a vessel survey with evaluation of and extensive modifications to the client-provided design following fatigue-and global-strength analyses. EXMAR Offshore also provided a demolition plan for removals, vessel general arrangement drawings, and structural scantlings for a new stern module, port and starboard sponsons housing, new azimuthing thrusters, and associated equipment. It also provided a plan to reinforce the main deck accommodations module, bow helideck, and deck crane, and supervised extensive electrical and mechanical system modifications.
